I contacted Charlotte after seeing her amazing content on LinkedIn. I’ve managed anxiety and an unsettled nervous system for many years, and Charlotte’s posts on breathing exercises resonated. I could see big potential to tackle some challenges that had been in place for many years.

Early on in our work together, we agreed on the main areas we’d focus for improvement. Top of the list was sleep — I’ve always struggled to stay asleep for a full night and came to the assumption that this would never change. I consider myself a groupie of Charlotte’s. I love the way she’s able to break down complex bioscience into easy-to-read and actionable material. After years of reading her newsletter, I finally signed up for coaching and I’m so glad I did.

I think back to a Naval Ravikant quote I shared with Charlotte early on — about how I’d become a high-anxiety, high-stress, hard-working person in the pursuit of making money. I’d lost the ability to switch off. I wouldn’t say I was suffering from burnout, but I was in fight-or-flight mode for the majority of the time. My body felt stressed even when there was nothing to worry about.

One of the biggest breakthroughs came in our very first session, when I realised I’d been cutting off my exhales my whole life — rushing to inhale before I’d fully breathed out.

Learning to let my exhale run its full length changed everything. It sounds simple, but it was the start of a cascade of shifts.

Now I rarely have a racing heart or busy mind at bedtime. I wake at 3am far less frequently. I do 30 minutes of silent breathwork every morning, and it’s completely changed how I move through the day — more relaxed, more focused. My wife told me I don’t spiral into panic and overthinking when anxiety rises anymore. I can sit with it and let it pass. That’s down to this work.

It went beyond breathwork too. I started thinking about my overall health differently — what I eat, how I move, how I structure my day. Charlotte showed me that you don’t need to be “always on.” In fact, you shouldn’t be.

I’d strongly recommend working with Charlotte to anyone who feels like they’re in a similar position — always on and unable to properly relax. You don’t need pills or tablets to fix you.
